• Qualifying IMU-CET is mandatory for admission to B.Tech Marine Engineering and B.Sc Nautical Science

• Onboard training is mandatory after course completion for sea career

• Minimum 6 months onboard training required after B.Tech Marine Engineering

• Minimum 12 months onboard training required after B.Sc Nautical Science

Academic Qualifications

• Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination

• Minimum 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM)

• Minimum 50% marks in English in Class 10 or Class 12

Age Limit

• Candidate must be less than 25 years of age on 1st August of the admission year

• Date of birth will be considered as per School Leaving Certificate

• SC/ST candidates get 5 years age relaxation

• OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates get 3 years age relaxation

• Women candidates get additional 2 years age relaxation

Physical Fitness

• The Institute has laid down detailed minimum physical fitness and medical standards.

• The candidate must meet the standards to qualify for admission.

• You are advised to have yourself medically examined by competent doctors before applying.

• This will ensure that you meet the minimum requirements, which in turn will avoid disappointment at a later stage.

Medical Requirements

• The Directorate General of Shipping's Fitness Requirements for Sea Service require that a candidate must be in good mental and physical health, free from any deficiency likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.

• These medical requirements are laid down by D.G. Shipping and are subject to change.

• The following features are to be particularly observed.

Constitution

• There should be no evidence of a weak constitution by way of imperfect development of muscles or serious malformation.

• Minimum height should be 157 centimeters with a correlated weight and proportionate chest with a minimum 5-centimeter expansion.

Skeletal System

• There should be no disease or impairment of functions of bones or joints.

• The candidate should also be free from any contraction or deformity of the chest or any joint.

• There should also not be any abnormal curvatures of the spine, deformity of legs and feet like bow legs, knock knees, or flat feet.

• There should be no deformity of upper limbs, malformation of the head, deformity from fractures, or depression of the skull.

• Healed fractures with pins inside will also be a disqualification.

Ear, Nose and Throat

• There should be no impaired hearing, discharge from or disease of either ear, unhealed perforation of the tympanic membrane, or signs of acute or chronic suppurative otitis media.

• The unaided average threshold is to be higher than 40 dB in both ears at 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz, and/or functional speech discrimination less than 90% at 55 dB in both ears is required.

• A candidate should be able to hear a whisper at a distance of 5 meters on each side without using hearing aids.

• Candidates should not be afflicted with any disease of the bones and cartilage of the nose, nasal polyps, or disease of the naso-pharynx or accessory sinuses.

• There should not be any loss or decay of teeth to such an extent as to interfere with efficient mastication.

• There should also not be any evidence of any disease of the throat, palate, tonsils, or gums, or any disease or injury affecting the normal function of either temporo-mandibular joint.

• Individuals with severe pyorrhoea will also be rejected.

Speech

• There should be no speech impediment or impairment, such as excessive stammering or a pronounced lisp.

Lymphatic System

• All candidates must have a normally functioning glandular system without signs of tubercular enlargement or abnormality due to other diseases in the neck or other parts of the body.

Cardiovascular System

• There should be no instance of cardiac or vascular disease. The electrocardiogram should be within normal limits.

• Systolic and diastolic blood pressure must not exceed 140 and 90 mm of Hg, respectively.

Respiratory System

• There should be no evidence of chronic or upper respiratory disease, tuberculosis, or history of this disease.

• Chest X-ray must be normal

Digestive System

• No digestive disorders

• Liver and spleen should not be enlarged

Genitourinary System

• Kidneys must be healthy

• No albumin, sugar or blood in urine

• No hernia unless surgery was done more than 1 year earlier

• No hydrocele, varicocele or genital abnormalities

• No piles, fistula or rectal disorders

• No venereal disease

Skin

• There should be no skin disease except for temporary or trivial conditions.

• Scars, which by their extent or position are likely to cause disability, are also unacceptable.

Nervous System

• There should be no history or evidence of mental disease in the candidate or their family.

• Candidates with a history of fits, incontinence of urine, or enuresis will not be accepted.

• Mental or nervous irritability, abnormality of gait, defective functions of cranial nerves, incoordination, or motor/sensory dysfunction will result in disqualification.

Eyesight

• No squint or serious eye conditions

• Good binocular vision required

• Eye movement must be normal

• Corrective lenses allowed

• Maximum unaided vision limit: 6/12 each eye or 6/9 better eye and 6/18 other eye

• Color blindness not allowed

• Color vision tested using Ishihara Chart

Other Tests

• Candidates may undergo Drug Test and HIV Test during medical examination or during the program

• Candidates should get their eyesight tested before applying to avoid issues during admission
